"I am proud that night after night and album after album, a mass of humanity I now refer to lovingly as the pop underground, come together and sing. Whether it's in theaters and concert venues around the world, in the privacy of our own homes or the constantly shifting landscape of social media, we are a scrappy tribe and we stand for something: Music that is found, shared and cared for despite access to traditional outlets; music that lives virally and through word of mouth; music that tells a story that people want to retell." - Andrew McMahon

| I didn't think of it until after it was all said and done, but I was curious as to when the night's setlist is made...prior to or after soundcheck, when the acoustics of the room can be figured out...I ask b/c we heard soundcheck and most songs appeared on the setlist, but not all. | Back to top | |

| A little of both I think Jenna. I've been to sound check twice and both times Andrew kind of tweaked things a little bit and tried to see which songs flowed into each other well. So I think they have a vague idea prior to sound check but then work out the kinks there. | Back to top | |

| Neat. That makes sense...I am glad I got to hear Wrecking Ball Heart in soundcheck (though outside the building) because they didn't play it that night. I think they also sound checked After The Fire but didn't play it..I was outside in line squeeing because it was like a concert before the concert...lol | Back to top | |

| I may ask "what is the oddest thing you've ever been asked to sign?" And "did you sign it?" LOL | Back to top | |

I love that question! I know he recently signed a girl's lower back in the tramp stamp area which I found... kind of goofy.
And I feel you on the sound check frustration, he played Wrecking Ball Heart several times in the Jax Beach soundcheck but no sign of it in the show. Such a tease. But like you, I was glad to get to hear it at all, I've never heard that one live in person. | Back to top

| I've heard it's normally right before they go on is when it's finalized.
And I really want to know what kind of cereal they like. | Back to top

| I'm taking this Wrecking Ball Heart sound checking as a chance that he'll actually play it at a show. Fingers crossed! | Back to top | |

| He seems to like to soundcheck songs he never plays though. We heard Diane for the first time ever at soundcheck during WCW and I don't think that ever got performed live. Although that was possibly for our benefit anyway since soundcheck was part of the Messengers M&G. | Back to top | |

| WhatStarsAre...I was at the Jax Beach show too!!! Did we meet? Haha...I did see the "tramp stamp" signage on instagram...wonder what his reaction was "ummm...ok?" | Back to top | |

| Haha just seeing this now. I think my "Victim's Rights" booklet is pretty strange (and awesome!) but definitely not the strangest! And at least the tramp stamp girl didn't ask him to sign her boobs? Or maybe she did and he compromised with the tramp stamp hahaha. People are so awkward.
In all the Q&As lately I've asked about his favorite movie and what he likes from the movie theater snack bar because I'm a film junkie (so much so that I'm doing a PhD in it)! He has yet to get around to answering my pet question though. | Back to top

| My fiance had him sign his lawyer's business card once (in my fiance's defense, he gave me his ticket to get signed for Lauren Rudnicki haha) | Back to top | |

| Hahaha..oh I am almost certain over his long career he has been asked to sign a boob. Now whether he complied with said request is another matter. LOL
I mean I guess I did ask him to sign his face...not technically on his face though, but I'd say the tramp stamp surpasses a lot. | Back to top

He has played Diane live! He played it back in 2010, at least the show I went to at First Ave in Minneapolis. | Back to top

| Oh, cool! I think because they're basically practice sessions, it just takes him a while to work soundcheck songs into the regular set sometimes because he has such high standards. And I'm sure he's just experimenting sometimes, trying things out. In any event, always worthwhile to get there in time to hear soundcheck, even if you're just hearing it from outside the venue! | Back to top | |

Diane was played at the Sac show in February 2010 it was so perfect because I was going to have him write me lyrics from it so I not only got that but to hear the song live too!
NOT THOSE LYRICS ANDREW DON'T YOU LISTEN?!
Hahaha. I really don't think I ever heard Diane during WCW aside from sound check, but I could be wrong. | Back to top

| Doing dishes and listening to AM music, and now randomly wondering if any of his friends, family, ex-girlfriends, or wife have ever gotten mad at something he wrote in a song? This is more into personal territory so I dont know that he would answer it with specifics, but hearing some songs always makes me wonder how people process that? With the exception of Jordan, he's never written anything particularly provoking or mean, and I know he days that him and his wife have an agreement that they don't go there in order to maintain his creative process, but I wonder if everyone follows that rule?
Ugh it's too early lmao maybe this should have gone in the random thoughts thread idk

| I often wonder what the girl behind "Konstantine" thinks, or if they've spoken in recent years. That's the big one for me... | Back to top | |

| I wonder about how the people in his life feel about the songs a lot actually. I mean, I'm sure his parents and Kelly are used to it by now, but I do wonder if he ever wrote anything that shocked them. The Konstantine question is a good one, and you used to be able to find a fair amount of info on Arin Delaney online, but now... not so much. Of course fans using her name have diluted the search pool a bit. | Back to top | |

| I never knew her name...Arin Delaney...I guess I always thought her name would start with a K. How silly. And who is Abby the intern? I am still playing catch up... | Back to top | |

| Arin is Miss Delaney, I don't think we know who Konstantine is? We know it's Arin because of the line "Arin, I would never lie to you." I think Abby the Intern is thanked in the liner notes somewhere. | Back to top | |

| Which is so funny to me because he always says he and the Punk Rock Princess girl had almost nothing in common. Such a tortured song over the obviously wrong girl. Oh, teenage love. XD | Back to top | |

| Exactly!! When he introduced it that one time, he made it seem like no big deal, there was just nothing in common, but then that dude shouted out "Was her name Konstantine?" and he confirmed that and I was all "huh?" I never had a teenage tortured love thing, but I suppose he writes deep stuff, he probably feels it as well... | Back to top | |

| Me either! Not that young anyway. When I was 19 or 20 I fell hard for a guy who didn't know I was alive and could have written some tortured stuff about that if I was the type. Lol.
But yeah, every time he does Punk Rock Princess or Heroine he says something about the girl like "We dated for way too long." Or "I'm pretty sure she only liked me for my car." Lmao. That one must have ended badly. | Back to top
