Welcome to The Underground |

"I am proud that night after night and album after album, a mass of humanity I now refer to lovingly as the pop underground, come together and sing. Whether it's in theaters and concert venues around the world, in the privacy of our own homes or the constantly shifting landscape of social media, we are a scrappy tribe and we stand for something: Music that is found, shared and cared for despite access to traditional outlets; music that lives virally and through word of mouth; music that tells a story that people want to retell." - Andrew McMahon

| This one is just really sweet! And I love old movies so it appeals to me on that level too. | Back to top | |

| as the summer came and left with the rain pushing shadows down the road in this old beach town when the sun goes down all the grey turns into gold got no plans, just a feeling i'm no architect at all there's a fan on the ceiling and a telephone that you should call
are you home tonight are you laying in bed watching black and white movies all alone tonight do you ever rewind to the summer you knew me?
black and white movies.
you were out at dawn with a wetsuit on, that's the picture in my mind now the waves still crash on the bonfire ash that the tourists leave behind waves of sound waves of static through the windows in my room and the seeds that you planted in a coffee cup that never bloom
are you home tonight are you laying in bed watching black and white movies all alone tonight do you ever rewind to the summer you knew me?
black and white movies.

| I wonder if this song is about someone in particular and if so if it's the "other girlfriend" from Halls. | Back to top | |

| I feel like I hear the most influence from his Smash songwriting on this one. There are parts, particularly in the second chorus, that really feel like modern musical theatre (in a good way!). | Back to top | |

| All I know is what it means to me. But it's so interesting to wonder who Andrew is wondering about or if he is writing from someone elses perspective. | Back to top | |

| Someone posted a review on Facebook and the author assumed the song was about Kelly. It's funny because I assumed it probably wasn't about her since it sounds more like a short-lived thing ("rewind to the summer you knew me"). I'm sure we'll never know for sure, but to me, it sounds like, not quite an apology, but a bittersweet message to a girl who wasn't "the one." Like, they aren't together anymore and he doesn't want to get back together with her, but he still thinks of her and remembers the things he loved about her and wishes she would call and check in once in a while. | Back to top | |

| The wetsuit line instantly made me think "surfer's dream" from Miss Delaney.
Regardless, this song is frikkin gorgeous. I can't even believe how pretty it is. And I think I'm hearing strings in it too which is freaking me out because STRINGS although I could be having another AUYT moment so I can't wait to see the booklet to be sure. | Back to top

| Tox, I definitely got Miss Delaney vibes from that and other little things. The fact that it's about movies and he calls her "a film projectionist" in Delaney, for one.
The synth flute in this reminds me of video game music but I love it! Specifically, it reminds me of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, lol. | Back to top

| Here's a crazy theory just going based off the chorus alone. What if he is writing from his Uncle who passed away perspective and Andrew wondering if his uncle or someone else ever just wonders about him. It's just the line do you ever rewind to the summer you knew me, is just so haunting. Of course my theory is probably way off and there are a million ways it can be interrupted. | Back to top | |

| I kept skipping this one at first because the piano intro reminded me of a dance song lol.. and then I finally gave it a chance. And now this is one of my favorites. The verse vocal melody sounds so SoCo. I love the music! That almost-guitar sounding riff in the left side of the mix in the breakdown is so beautiful.
I've seen some comments in which people are taking the movie thing literally.. but I'm sure it's a metaphor for looking back at old memories. Hence the "do you ever rewind to the summer you knew me.." | Back to top

| I love it until the second verse is over and then I'm like... there's so much left in this song, yet ... no new words... For some reason I just don't like the chorus enough on this one to want to listen to it a bunch whereas with Halls I LOVE the chorus. And it's not that this chorus is bad either? | Back to top | |

| I can see how this song could be 'meh' to some people because of the chorus I guess but I freaking love this, the verses especially. | Back to top | |

| Yeah its definitely the choruses that turn me off from this one. Not that they aren't sweet - I just don't like the repetition as much in this song | Back to top | |
