Andrew got a mention over at Fuse TV in a review of William Beckett's (super hot) new music video:

http://www.fuse.tv/videos/2013/07/william-beckett-benny-joon-exclusive

"Benny & Joon" sees Beckett continuing on the trajectory he started with The Academy Is... while bringing in a new set of influences. There are shades of Tom Petty amidst the synth-powered melodies, and it seems as though Beckett's solo album might be a perfect complement to Andrew McMahon's recently released solo effort.

I love Benny & Joon and totally agree that it goes perfectly with TPU. I am currently badgering them both to tour together on Twitter. The photos and video from Slam Dunk killed me dead.

Watching the El Rey dvd and it's totally weird to think that just a little while ago only JM songs were played. It was such a strange idea to get used to once the AM switch happened, but now i cant imagine things otherwise.

Agree! I love the font actually, I just wish he used it on a few other songs too

While we were vaguely on the topic of the DVD, I'm still not over the fact that after playing 20 songs in one night and 21 in another, we got a 14 song audio CD, and only 9 full performances on the DVD. A lot of great songs were left out completely. I would've much preferred this if it was a two-disc DVD that included the full show and we only got the audio portion as a download or something.

I mean, as a celebration of JM's music, there should be more of that, no?

(Yes, I know I've been going on about it on Tumblr but still)

I don't know if I completely agree Yaara. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved that too haha. Like, with Konstantine on the first night... I wasn't upset over that not being on either because he played it just for them since he added the second show and wanted to make it up to them.

I do wish I could watch the full shows again and again so don't get me wrong... it just didn't bother me I guess. Watching the performances felt just like I was there again and I think certain songs (like La La Lie especially) just completely defined the night so I guess I would have been more upset if those songs weren't included. I do wish we had video of Bloodshot, though haha but yeah I do see where you're coming from and maybe if I looked at the set lists from those nights compared to the dvd I'd be more like "guh! why can't I watch THIS one!"

Idk, I feel like I was more interested in the behind the scenes and interview footage? Idk why that was because I was expecting to feel the same as you did before I watched it, but I ended up much more satisfied and I feel like it was put together perfectly. It just feels right to me, idk.

Hi!... Im kinda new to posting on the site(s)... but I have always been a fan of the site(s) and regularly checked for updates (too shy to post ever)....I can agree with both ideas in a sense. Andrew gave a glimpse into one of the set lists and there were songs that I wish were included on the dvd/cd (especially the bloodshot video), however I really did enjoy the behind the scenes and interviews of the dvd. I think it would have been awesome as well to have included interviews from the band (Andrew did introduce the band and their roles)...

I guess I have a totally random thought that is off the current topic.... you always see Andrew in pictures with his arm around fans and an OPEN sharpie in his hand... I would be interested in knowing if there was ever a time sharpie was mistakenly drawn on a fan... I was just looking at pictures from the concert I went to and photos of when I met him and saw the same thing haha an open sharpie (I wouldnt have complained if he did get sharpie on me... it would be one hell of a story) but I was too much of a spaz to ask / even form a complete sentence around Andrew.

So happy you're posting!

Haha I never had a problem with Andrew but once I met Jesse McCartney (I was OBSESSED with him when he was in Dream Street and I was in like 6th grade lmao) but I asked him for a hug but security said no and he shook my hand instead and he got sharpie all over me

Haha, the first time I met Andrew he shook my hand with the Sharpie in it too. Through a fence. Can't remember if it got on me or not, but I'm sure I wouldn't have cared!

How many of you have actually been to one of the two final shows? And if you haven't been to one of those, how many of you have been to a Jack's show?

Well, I haven't seen Jack's live (living in Israel and all) and I was really hoping this would be my chance to experience a full show. I'm willing to bet the reason a lot of you don't mind, is because you got to at least watch these songs performed live at least once, whereas I didn't.

Don't get me wrong, I love the behind the scenes. I just think a show DVD should have the actual SHOW as the main feature, while the behind the scenes is the cool bonus.

I don't get why "I'm Ready" was completely left out both from the audio CD and the DVD. Same goes for "My Racing Thoughts" that Andrew deemed good enough to release as a single but not to include on the DVD. I also think "Bloodshot" is one of the most unique live experiences (that Bloodshot bounce!) and MFEO is one of my favorite songs and a full performance version of that would've been great. So I'm bummed these songs were not included (or more included, at least we got MFEO and Bloodshot as audio).

I think they could've at least included all of the songs in audio form as an iTunes download. I'd totally pay separately for that. I know there is limited space on DVDs, but the digital versions could've definitely been enhanced.

Yeah... I'm a bit bitter because I never really got to see Jack's live. I got to see SoCo and I got to see Andrew solo (and acoustic so no Bloodshot bounce for me!), which I'm super thankful for, but it was also a super expensive experience. A DVD is something I can at least afford!

Yaara I completely understand and I'm sorry you didn't get to see those things. I really don't know what the thought process was not putting them on there, but also keep in mind that I'd imagine it's harder with a live show? Like, I know the audio is very well done but it's hard if those songs just didn't come out right or someone screamed something during them or something. Not saying this is why they made the choice, just thinking of possible reasons why.

I am VERY glad you've gotten to see SoCo and Andrew solo though, and I really really really hope you get to go to more shows in the future I know it's expensive and I wish he'd come closer to you at some point because I'm sure you deserve to go

I still haven't watched the DVD (lol I'm the worst!) but I definitely think it would have been really cool to have a full show recorded with all the songs and even the banter between songs included. Of course, that might be because I'm a total dork and could listen to Andrew blather about stuff for days. Haha.

I actually think the greatest thing would have been to live stream the final shows for everyone at home! They could have set up some kind of required donation to the DJF to watch and we all could have been experiencing it at the same time together! Having the DVD is cool as a keepsake but I'm sure everything was way more powerful in the moment.

Well I doubt he'll come close to me (the closest he got was England, so I went to England. That's still a 5 hour flight that cost me about $470 return ticket not to mention hotels and other expenses), but I plan on moving to the States for grad school so hopefully I'll be somewhere he swings by at least once a year!

They did film both nights and the setlist was very similar. The audio I'm sure they got directly from the soundboard (and they could still mix and master that) and as for the video - editing, and picking the best version of either night. My point is, it is quite possible to get the full show filmed properly. Bands do it all the time.

I think Andrew thought this was a better send-off to the band, to actually tell the story of the band. Which I absolutely loved. But, as I said, I would've loved the full show.

I guess you win some, and you lose some. My only comfort is that Andrew's still performing these songs plus SoCo ones plus new ones, so his setlists are now better than ever. And unlike in the past when he flat out would not take requests, he seems to be more open to them now so if we really want a song he hasn't played in a while, maybe we can talk him into it

Hahaha YUP. That video kills me every time. I sent it to Matt a few minutes ago and he was like Sarah, you've already shown me this. And I was like "I KNOW! BUT IT'S FUNNY AGAIN." omg just utter brilliance on Andrew's part.

Blame Stephenie Meyer! XD

Very random: a friend of mine wanted me to suggest Andrew music for him because he really liked the EP. I told him to start with EIT and apparently he looked it up on Amazon and my review of the re-released with the DVD was the first thing that came up! Haha, not that I'm ashamed of it or anything, but maybe I shouldn't have written it under my real name?

On a slightly creepier note, I have one of his Sharpies

When I met Andrew for the 2nd time his sharpie wasn't working anymore. I had brought one of my own, so we traded sharpies. Actually, I first jokingly gave him some trouble for asking if he could have my sharpie, since they don't sell sharpie brand sharpies in my country and I have them send over from the US to Europe. I love to use them to draw.
