"I am proud that night after night and album after album, a mass of humanity I now refer to lovingly as the pop underground, come together and sing. Whether it's in theaters and concert venues around the world, in the privacy of our own homes or the constantly shifting landscape of social media, we are a scrappy tribe and we stand for something: Music that is found, shared and cared for despite access to traditional outlets; music that lives virally and through word of mouth; music that tells a story that people want to retell." - Andrew McMahon

I was trying to avoid listening to new songs after hearing Canyon Moon and then I come on here to see links to Halls and See Her on the Weekend! Ahhhhh what do I do??
I think I'm going to do an Andrew blackout starting October 1st, no new stuff, no new new stuff (i..e. stuff that gets released between now and then), no new live stuff, NOTHINGGGG and then I'll get the whole album and listen to it in one go with my giant headphones I wore when I was 15 to listen to EIT.
Album SPOILERS ahoy. I just listened and am on my second listen so I have to get these feelings out.
Canyon Moon - perf, haunting, adore Cecilia - I overplayed it so let's leave it alone for awhile High Dive - fantastic but a little overplayed still so I'll leave it a bit
ALL OUR LIVES - This is fantastic. FANTASTIC. I love the part where he talks about the mornings/voices/etc, IDK just love. Super radio friendly?
See Her On The Weekend - I still like it, but it absolutely pales in comparison with the rest of the new songs?
BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES - Fab. I wish there were more lyrics - a lot of it is just chorus which I like but that's my one issue with it. I do really like it.
DRIVING THROUGH A DREAM - ONE OF MY FAVES. Holy shit. THE CHORUS THOUGH. LIKE WHAT IS HE DOING. I feel like this could BLOW up if it was released.
HALLS - Okay so I absolutely ADORED this one when I heard it and then the next ones overwhelmed it - I still love it, it's just a testament to how good the whole album is that I adored this so much and can adore everything else just as much if not more. That chorus is killer.
RAINY GIRL - I actually didn't love it at the beginning, but once it hit the chorus, I was in love. I think if I go with the dog breeder where I get to pick the registered name, she's going to be registered as [Kennel name] Rainy Girl. I still don't love the beginning but I absolutely love the chorus. The music is so… it's very retro??? This reminds me the most of No Man Is An Island but it has this SUPER RETRO feeling to it. Like it could belong in a black and white movie (haha).
MAPS FOR THE GETAWAY - this one has to sink in a little bit, I only listened once. I think I like it, I'm just in a blur right now between songs, need to hear it more than once to remember what I think about it! OKAY ON SECOND LISTEN it's beautiful and stunning too.
This whole album is stunning.
Sorry for the amount of posts in a short time hahaha I had to get this excitement out.

ok on another note though can we talk about how much fun these songs will be at shows?? all i can think of when i listen to 90% of them are 'omg i can't wait to dance to this'
I was really happy with the album but it did hurt my heart a little that I ended up having surgery on the exact date he's coming to my nearby city that I had tickets for. Hopefully there will be another tour after this one though where I'll get to hear some of these babies.
UGHGHGHHH WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE THIS AMAZING ALBUM HUGE?! There's not even a radio station near me that I think would play it, except for maybe the college station. I WANT EVERYONE TO HEAR IT.

THIS. I've annoyed the crap out of my coworkers all week because every time there's a lull in conversation, I pop in with "So on the new record..."
lol ikr I saw that and was just like...wut I mean I guess okay...I can't really think of lyrics right now that would or wouldn't place it in that category so I guess whatever works!

I freaking love that in the age of internet downloads where people hardly buy music anymore, Andrew has fans that ask what outlet they can buy from so that he gets the highest profit out of it
What I like so much about this album is that for all the fresh new synthy sounds, a lot of it feels really familiar. The word "nostalgic" has been thrown around a lot in reviews and interviews, and I think that works. There's this perfect balance of old and new here, but at the same time, it isn't about trying to recapture what was so great about past albums. You just end up with this journey through his life and his songs created this way because he's so damn good at all these different, but cohesive sounds. Such solid work all the way through.
