"I am proud that night after night and album after album, a mass of humanity I now refer to lovingly as the pop underground, come together and sing. Whether it's in theaters and concert venues around the world, in the privacy of our own homes or the constantly shifting landscape of social media, we are a scrappy tribe and we stand for something: Music that is found, shared and cared for despite access to traditional outlets; music that lives virally and through word of mouth; music that tells a story that people want to retell." - Andrew McMahon
I locked myself in a hotel room Been waiting all night for the walls to move I loved some girls that I barely knew I made some friends and I've lost some too Crashed my car, I was 17 My mother in the seat right next to me The things I’ve learned from a broken mirror How a face can change when a heart knows fear
For all the things my eyes have seen The best by far is you
If I could fly Then I would know What life looks like from up above and down below I’ll keep you safe I’ll keep you dry Don’t be afraid Cecilia, I’m the satellite And you’re the sky
I've cafe crawled through Amsterdam Been around the world with a punk rock band And I’ve seen London and I played Japan I've been knocked down, I got up again
For all the places I have been I’m no place without you
If I could fly Then I would know What life looks like from up above and down below I’ll keep you safe I’ll keep you dry Don’t be afraid Cecilia, I’m the satellite And you’re the sky
I'm the satellite And you're the sky
For all the things my hands have held The best by far is you
If I could fly Then I would know What life looks like from up above and down below I’ll keep you safe I’ll keep you dry Don’t be afraid Cecilia, I’m the satellite And you’re the sky And you're the sky I'm the satellite And you're the sky And you're the sky
There's a soundcloud recording where people in the audience go "awwww" right after the first "you're the sky" right before the "ohhh's" and it's adorable lmao
Also the story about him writing it xD Kelly puts up with some stuff that's for sure xD
I know I was just thinking to myself that the setlist is probably going to be a bit different on the opening sets and I'm nervous because I WANT THIS AND I WANT HIGH DIVE, DARN IT.

Here's the studio version if anyone wants to have a sneak peak of Andrew's new sound - if the rest of the album ends up like this, I think we're all in for a treat!!
I used iTunes to convert the massive lossless file I had to something I could upload, so m4a for now, but if anyone needs an mp3 let me know! Enjoy and please please please purchase the single when you can to support an artist that has helped so many lives!
EDIT: Also a version uploaded to Tumblr just in case any of your devices don't support Apple's m4a format, should be compatible with everything - still up on WreckingBallHeart's blog
Guys I'm sorry I had to remove the download links, we just can't keep studio versions of songs up officially in public spaces on this site. I know everyone wants to hear the song and I'm crazy excited about it so I feel bad removing the link but it's just in order to keep our site safe and running
If anyone plans to share the song, please do it privately. it's okay to post something like "I want it" or your e-mail address in hopes other people will contact you and send it privately, but we can't officially condone the sharing of studio versions of songs that are or will be released.

I texted my bestie and was like "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. Also this is going to be in an insurance commercial isn't it? I keep you safe, I keep you dry, I'm the State Farm guy." XD It's not a criticism at all, but it does sound perfect for a commercial or movie soundtrack or trailer. It sounds both epic and accessible, if that makes sense.

I think it's too epic for a commercial -- or at least I hope so!
Based on how this single sounds, I feel like this could be Andrew's breakthrough album.
Maybe for an Apple commercial, they go for the epic. I'm not totally opposed since commercials reach people alt radio doesn't. But I'd prefer a movie trailer. For a movie that doesn't suck, preferably! And yeah I agree, this could very well be the big one. I both hope and fear that it will be, haha.
I’ve been writing music most of my life. Songs have always been the place where I’ve sorted out the events of day. If you trace these songs back far enough they tell a story of where I’ve been and what I’ve seen along the way. That said, most people don’t have the time to sort through the hundreds of songs that have collected in the wake of my 20 plus years behind a piano, and that’s why I love “Cecilia and the Satellite”. As a song it encapsulate so much living against the back drop of a new life. Cecilia was written with the knowledge that my wife and I would soon meet our first child. With the hope of avoiding territory this type of song often treads, I tried to create a road map of the life I had lived leading up to that moment. One my daughter might look back on some day. A strange life of constant motion, spent traveling in the pursuit of music. A life I’ve nearly lost on more than one occasion and one which I am thankful for, now more than ever. Deep down this song is about more than me and where I’ve been, it’s about more than my daughter and what I want for her. It’s about being proud of where you come from and wanting the most for the people you share your world with.
