"I am proud that night after night and album after album, a mass of humanity I now refer to lovingly as the pop underground, come together and sing. Whether it's in theaters and concert venues around the world, in the privacy of our own homes or the constantly shifting landscape of social media, we are a scrappy tribe and we stand for something: Music that is found, shared and cared for despite access to traditional outlets; music that lives virally and through word of mouth; music that tells a story that people want to retell." - Andrew McMahon

Up around ten with a headache kicking Guess who fell asleep with a cigarette My girl's back home with the morning sick Got a baby on the way, not here yet
And I'm alright, I think we're good Yeah I drink more than the doctors say I should I've been a little hard to reach But my girl is on the beach and I'll see her on the weekend I'll see her on the weekend I'll see her on the weekend I'll see her at the end of the week
Friday comes, Lately I'm sleeping Until the sun fills up my rented room I pack my things, get my car started Yeah I've been gone but I'll be home real soon
Cellphone's dead and she is calling My message box is full

| This one is weird. It's like I can see what he's doing and what sound he wants and he hit that just fine but it's not my favourite style of his, I guess? I do like it. It's just not my favourite. Makes me interested to see how this whole album works altogether. | Back to top | |

| Oh, and I think the chorus is actually "Up around TEN with a headache kicking, Guess I fell asleep with a cigarette." | Back to top | |

| I really enjoy it for the intimacy but I'm not sure it'll have as much re-listen value as other songs will. | Back to top | |

| It reminds me of Sister Goldenhair Surprise a bit? It's definitely not... Bad... I think I would listen to it a lot in a long distance r/ship where I only saw them on the weekend?
I think it's better heard in album context though. I want to see how it all pulls together! | Back to top

I have to listen to it again because I keep getting it stuck in my head and singing "I'll see her on the weekend, I'll see her on the weekend" to myself.

| Finally listened! Not crazy about the structure and lyrical style, but the instrumental is gorgeous (like seriously that piano ). I feel like I'll be able to appreciate it more in the context of the album though and it will grow on me. | Back to top | |

I'm fairly skeptical of that without even really knowing what it means. | Back to top

| Sorry, that's too flippant. I'm like Tox, I do like the instrumentation and the melody. The lyrics just don't do it for me, they're a little too on the nose. It isn't so much that it's a bad song, objectively, but it doesn't live up to the other three in my book. Because they're SO DAMN GOOD and this one's just okay. | Back to top | |

| I have to say I initially kind of thought it would be the auto-skip/Orphans of the album, but…. it grew on me.
My initial impression was: .. this is … awkward? I like some of it… ? Huh.
Then I had to listen to it agin because the chorus was stuck in my head. And I was like, you know, it's not bad. It's pretty chill. Still a little awkward, but it's not bad.
This morning: I wake up, and have to blast it while I get dressed and start interpretative dancing to it.
Safe to say it is still not going to be my favourite BUT it grew on me and I actually really love it now in a "you're kinda awkward but chill and nice to jam to anyways bebe" kinda way. | Back to top

| Unfortunately, count me in the really dislike group. I have to agree with WhatStarsAre -- lyrically, I think it might be his worst song yet, particularly the "see her at the end of the week" part.
However, the other three songs that I've heard are just SO FREAKING GOOD that I am sure this album is still going to be amazeballs | Back to top

| I also wish MTV had premiered a more radio-friendly pick! Canyon Moon or High Dive both could have done well there. | Back to top | |

| You ARE a weirdo for disliking Television but I accept you anyway
The fact that Zac co-produced this one makes me like it even more, his vibe is all over it.
Like I said on Facebook yesterday, I get why some might not like the repetition/simplistic lyrics, but they make sense when you consider his headspace/location. If I was stuck in a desert shack for 4 1/2 days at a time, I would totally be like, "BABY. NOT HERE YET. WEEKEND. END OF THE WEEK." I think we're all used to him using so much imagery in his songs that a straight-forward song like this comes off as bad/unfinished, whereas I see it as refreshing. It's my least favorite of everything we've heard, but I think it still elevates the record. | Back to top

| The comparison to Orphans is an interesting one to me for two reasons.
1. I like that song way more than most people do, as appears to be the case here.
2. That's a case where sequencing matters. I don't know how many people remember this but the original TGP promo material had Orphans listed before The Resolution, and so did the leaked version (which it turned out was an early studio master). But on the finished version it's a really great sort of breather and interlude after the sort of loud brashness of that song into the quiet beginning of Caves. Given that we've heard almost everything that comes before this and very little that comes after, I suspect this will be a similar turning point on the ITW record. | Back to top

| That's interesting Jeffro. I do get what you mean about Orphans kind of setting the stage for Caves. That whole album has a brilliant almost theatrical flow to it. I skip both Orphans and Caves when I'm doing a casual listen because sometimes I'm just not emotionally prepared to listen to Caves. But when I do listen to it, I listen to them both. If it's a transitional song, it does make it an even stranger choice to preview through MTV, to me. | Back to top | |
